Make mine MINTY!

It's no secret we love beautiful things, so how could we not love the super talented ladies over at Minty Magazine! Their thoughtfully curated online magazine is a haven of all goodies that are perfect for your little people! We caught up with Sarah Davies, editor of Minty Magazine, to get the low down on all things minty.

Can you explain your idea behind launching Minty Magazine? We purchased a 60's home a couple of years ago which we have slowly been renovating. When it came time to create a magical little space for our two girls I was overwhelmed by the amount of inspiration on Pinterest and it occurred to me late one night that I should create my own little platform to showcase what I believe is the best in children's design. I am only just finishing their rooms off now though - the magazine seemed to take over there for a while!

What are you aiming to showcase in Minty? Ultimately we showcase beautiful children's interiors with a mix of family homes, fashion, decor and other pops of inspiration. I like to ensure we are always curating content which our readers haven't seen before. I am also passionate about small business and this industry is absolutely brimming with talented artisans and creators, so its nice introducing their wares to our readers too.

You recently had another little baby, how are you managing??? Is it lots of coffee? What's your secret? I won't lie - our third babe (who is now 5 months old), has increased the workload more than I expected but the best piece of advice I was given was to lower my expectations (although this is easier said than done)! For now, I work when the babies are asleep which allows me to get the bare minimum done. I have loads of stuff planned for Minty Magazine in the future, but my priority for these few months is to savour every minute of my newborn...it's cliche but they grow up far too quickly.

What trends do you think we will be seeing in kids spaces and interiors? There are so many amazing removable wallpaper options available now, making it easier than ever to create an amazing and unique room without the commitment of the traditional variety.

What is your style like at home? In 2016 we are renovating our bathroom, laundry, kitchen/living and deck so things will change considerably. Mostly I love neutral walls and furniture, with pops of colour and texture in our decor. I also have a thing for retro furniture, and my husband has restored some fabulous old pieces for our home.

What is on your interiors wish list? Holy moly, I want all.of.the.things!!!. Right now I have my eye on the Factory Cabinet (bedside tables) from General Eclectic. Simple, practical but very lovely to look at!

Mix or match? I love the look and idea of mixing colours, styles and textures, but I must say when it comes to my own home, I always come back to those which match.

Fave colour combo? It honestly changes so often, but since having a boy (after two girls) I am really loving blue in every variety. Particularly teamed with sea green and tan leather.

What have you got planned for Minty Magazine in the future? We would love to publish a special printed edition at the end of the year, and have already started developing beautiful content. Our only hurdle will be a crowd funding campaign to help pay for printing costs, and we will launch this in October. Stay tuned, you'll be able to pre-order your copy soon!

Make sure you hop on over to their website to check out the latest edition of Minty Magazine!

A Minute with MERAKI

Anthea from Meraki Magazine is one of the loveliest people you will come across and her online mag that was co-founded with Sam Leenman is packed full of lust worthy interiors and event styling inspo. We recently picked Anthea's brain about the trends in events and tablescapes, her style at home and Meraki magazine.

Can you explain your idea behind launching Meraki Magazine?

I launched Meraki Magazine with my Co-Founder, Sam Leenman, for slightly selfish reasons. The first being that I had finished planning my wedding and had a creative hole in my life. I wanted an excuse to create beautiful tablescapes and spaces again! The second is slightly less selfish - I was studying Interior Design at the time and I saw there was a gap in the magazine market between the glossy lifestyle/design magazines for everyday people and the over the top industry level design magazines for Interior Designers. I envisioned a magazine that was authentic but pushed the styling boundaries whilst creating beautifully curated pages with an independent vibe.

What is the meaning of the word 'Meraki"?

'Meraki' means to put your soul, creativity and who you are into what you do. That is exactly what our magazine is about. Each shoot, each article, each interview is putting a piece of someone's soul, someone's creative dreams onto paper and immortalising it.

What trends do you think we will be seeing in events styling?

I think we'll be seeing a resurgence of the Mexican vibe coming through. I've seen quite a few fiesta-themed parties lately, and the vivid colours and bold styling concepts are simply delicious. I also think we'll start seeing an event styling take on the Shaker design style. It's a style that is making a comeback in Interior Design, and event styling often follows where interior design has gone. Think linen tablecloths in charcoals, greys and neutrals, natural materials such as wooden chairs and lots of greenery/florals.

What are the latest trends that you are seeing in Wedding styling at the moment?

think the bohemian vibe is still having a big moment. It's almost become the 'Little Black Dress' of the wedding world. I always love a well constructed boho wedding and from a practical point of view they are so easy. Keep everything neutral, chuck in some lace, add some silverware to your tablescape, write something slightly whimsical on your invitations and tada - boho wedding. I've also seen a few weddings that have centred around a geometric theme - very very cool. I'm hoping that 2015 will see people pushing styling boundaries and getting away from stereotypical styling.

Who are your fave creatives in the field of styling?

Oh man. So many! But my main go to creatives are Megan Morton, Abigail Ahern and Bri Emery. They each have such distinct styles and pave their own way in design. We had the honour of interviewing Abigail Ahern for one of our issues. I died. I haven't gained the courage to ask Megan Morton or Bri Emery yet!

What is your style like at home?

My style is best described as 'eclectically evolving'. Sadly, I am not loyal to one particular style and will chuck out everything and start again based on a new piece I see (I am a terrible, terrible person). My poor husband comes home regularly to an entirely different house. For example, a few months ago I bought a gorgeous original mid century lounge suite. I am now getting rid of this to make way for a new brown leather couch I fell in love with. I have a problem.

Describe our dream tablescape?

I really love tiny neon dinosaurs at the moment. My dream tablescape would definitely involve those, and if I could, Heston Blumenthal would create me an entirely edible tablescape - edible flowers, edible cutlery, edible everything. Yum! So tiny dinosaurs and Heston Blumenthal creations.

Your perfect day?

Well I now have a newborn so a perfect day for me is one where I can sleep all day undisturbed haha! But normally it would involve breakfast at a cafe with my husband and dog, Bear, before meandering through endless galleries and museums (without my husband because he doesn't roll like that).

Mix or match?

Mix. Always.

Your dream holiday destination?

Snowboarding in Japan. It's defintiely on the cards once our new baby, Camilla, is old enough!

What is on your interiors wish list?

It's entirely unpractical but I would love Shiro Kuramata's "How High the Moon" armchair. It's made entirely out of steel mesh with no interior frame or support. It looks unreal.

Fave colour combo?

Copper and Deep Navy. Scrumptious!

What have you got planned for Meraki Magazine in the future?

We have a few projects in the pipeline for the future. We are planning on bringing out an annual print coffee table book overflowing with styling so stunning it gives you massive love heart eyes! But before we embark on that we want to establish the magazine a little more - we're still such a baby magazine!

The ART SERIES

It's not exactly news that we are head over heels for Kip & Co! Naturally we were super excited for this season's collection but the announcement of their first ever ART SERIES had us all a buzz! We would have loved to have seen the hundreds of entrants, but gosh it would have been so hard to pick!! The winning beanbags are even cooler than anything we could have dreamed, and we're totally bickering over which one is our favourite!

Seriously!? How do you even choose?

RAWAAN

Rawaan's design is super fun and we love trawling over all the tiny little illustrations - you find something new every time! Inspired by your childhood sticker collection, this beanbag is definitely a nod to the good old days.

MR SMUDGE

Mr Smudge's bold graphic line drawings are minimalist but add interest and personality. Inspired by the character's of his coastal community, each face has it's own story. This is definitely a good one for both big people and little people, and is super easy to style!

Letitia Green

Letitia's design is insanely bright, which is exactly what we love! A chaotic clash between African tribal prints and uplifting colours - it's not for the faint hearted!

DEVINDER KAUR

Devinder's beanbag is crisp, clean and a perfect match to any space. The rough line drawings give a feeling of texture, and consists of random line drawings stitched into a pattern.

So what are you waiting for? This is an extremely exclusive series and we only have a handful of beanbags left! You really don't want to miss out on these super cool designs - grab your favourite beanbag online here.

CHRISTMAS WISHLIST

Can you believe it's November already, yikes! What has happened to this year? Christmas will be upon us before we know it. It's our favourite time of year and we wanted to make it exciting. So in the lead up to Christmas we will be bringing you the Dream Christmas Wish Lists of our FAVE bloggers, brands and creatives. See exactly what they want in their Christmas sacks this year... trust me it's so interesting... and inspiring... and maybe dangerous!

At Jumbled we LOVE a wedding and let me tell you that Lara Hotz takes the most AMAZING wedding pics! Every one of her shoots are super fabulous! This girl oozes style and creativity and that is why we have selected her to be our FIRST guest Dream Christmas Wish List Creator.

I am currently loving the natural earthy headboard by The Family Love Tree.

On my bed I would throw a neutral amazing linen - the Gypsy Luxe doona set - and add some character with some amazing pops of the black and white Golden Eye pillow cases! Love these!!! I also love the Dream Weaver cushion - the hand lettering is beautiful!

I would then throw the amazing Pony Rider- My Caravan over the bedspread. I love adding layers and layers on my bed of textures and patterns and colours.

On the walls I would hang a cluster of the Cactus Print, the Ran Ran Designs weaving and the Sassy Lady by Mia Oatley to create a feature wall of incredible pieces that compliment each other yet are completely different. I love mixing and matching items together to create an eclectic look.
I would hang the Rattan Pastel Green Light Shade next to the bed as a bedside light to add a pop of colour. It brings everything together and also adds that earthy natural look.

HOUZZ with RedAgape

Saying that I was thrilled would be an understatement when Houzz Australia contacted us at Jumbled. I have used Houzz as an invaluable design source while renovating my own home. You must check it out if you haven’t already as there will surely find something that tickles your fancy.

Houzz has just launched a new series called” At Home With…” It’s a fortnightly instalment designed to celebrate Australia’s best home and lifestyle bloggers as we step inside their humble abodes to learn more about who they are, what their blog’s about and how it came to be.

They kicked off with Amanda O’Sullivan and her inspiring DIY and craft blog RedAgape which she writes out of her country home in Dubbo, NSW. A few years ago, Mandy had reached a stage in her life where she was determined to find an outlet for her creative passions – and she didn’t have to wait long to find one.

In April 2012, on a weekend away in the picturesque village of Millthorpe, NSW, Mandy fell so head over heels with the town she decided to buy an 1890s bluestone foundation house there, planning to turn it into a delightful guesthouse. She set up the RedApape blog as a way to document her renovation and also as a platform to share her home-styling tips, craft tutorials and more.

Houzz has asked each blogger to choose their favourite shop to giveaway a $50 voucher from….and guess who Amanda picked…..Jumbled!!!

All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning it is to comment on the Houzz article and they will pick the most creative and unique answer as the winner. So jump on and read more about Amanda and her blog….and don’t forget to leave that comment by 5pm AEST on Sunday 9 November

We're Hooked!

We are so pumped to introduce you to our newest member of Team Jumbled, The Hook Co. Woo hoo! These little hooks are the ultimate..........the perfect combination of cool, functional and simply beautiful. We couldn't wait to ask Kellie Nash, founder of The Hook Co. just what inspired this collection and of course, how she uses them in her own home.

How did Hook and Co start?
The hook co. was established out of a personal search for some cool hooks for my children's bedrooms. I wanted something that could double as art & function, something simple, stylish, & in the colours that I love.  Something to hang the abundance of hats & other paraphernalia that we as Parents collect for our little people!

The hook - practical? pretty? both?
Definitely pretty, definitely practical! My Husband is a Carpenter/Builder & perfectionist! He makes up the other half of The Hook Co. and he would not go through with this product if it wasn't practical (he is a Virgo!). I am more the arty, 'right side of the brain' kind of person that wants to play with colour, wants things to look the part & wants to make use of my creative energy!
Fave colour combo
Oh this is a really hard one because I love colour & play with various combos daily! It is completely dependant on where the hooks are being used!  Having never been a pink person, I am surprisingly obsessed with 'think pink' and get a good feeling from seeing it next to our 'olive green' and 'mellow yellow'. I like to group things in odd numbers, I find it much more pleasing to the eye. So, aside from these three together, you can't go past three natural circles, 2 little and 1 big. So practical, stylish and suitable for any interior!

Your perfect day
My perfect day would be one spent with my family.  Start with a walk to the beach, a coffee, sunshine, a fresh, tasty salad to balance out the hot chips shared on a picnic blanket under a shady tree, a play in the park, followed by an ice cream. Relaxing swim at home (in the pool that's coming soon!) watching our boys from a comfy spot on the deck with a really cold glass of Sauvignon blanc & an antipasto plate, NO CHORES ALL DAY!

Mix or match
Definitely mix! I'm not a matchy, matchy person and my choices are all about whether or not I love something, not if it's going to match. If you love it, it will work! You will make it work! When it comes to our wall hooks, the beauty of these is that they can be a mix of colours & shapes or matched colours & shapes.
What is your style at home?
My style at home is eclectic, I love the old with the new, a blend of colour and neutrals.  I have a great love for rattan, natural materials & fabrics.  Our home is a modern weatherboard beach house with lots of traditional elements keeping it homely & cosy & very lived-in!
What makes the perfect room
Eye catching pieces, interesting finishes, things to look at, well thought out design, texture, warmth, character, personalisation!
Where do you have your hooks hanging in your home?
I have them in the boys rooms, and aside from hanging hats, bags & a skateboard, I find them great for getting creatively decorative with all sorts of 'hangable' items! I also have them all over a wall in my laundry, which is bag & hat central!  There's a wall in my bedroom ear marked for the next batch!
Check out the ways in which you could use wall hooks in your home. Try your living room, entrance way, bedroom or study nook. You can't really go wrong with something that is functional and beautiful.

Get Your Weave On!

TREND ALERT: GET YOUR WEAVE ON
Have you noticed the woven wall hangings popping up all over the place lately? This trend seems to be gaining momentum! Everywhere I look, there they are......from the super tiny and sweet to the huge and hairy!

I really must give credit to Kel from Chief and Kewpie for igniting my interest in woven wall art. I can't remember when I first stumbled upon Kel's amazing wall hangings on Instagram, but I think it was LOVE at first sight.

Weavings are a great way to add colour, texture and warmth to any space.

Try clustering a collection together for max impact or just pop one amongst the other goodies in your home to ramp up the texture and personality in your space.

Wall hangings can be ultra simple, whilst the next will have layers upon layers of texture, colour, fringing, pom poms, tassels and knots.

At Jumbled we LOVE this trend so much that we had to dedicated a Pinterest board to the art form. We are just blown away by just how clever people are and what wild pieces can be created by just a loom a little bit of creativity.

So if you are feeling inspired by this trend, the we have some awesome news for you! We're hosting a Weaving Workshop with Kel on the 1st and 2nd November! There are still some seats available. This 3hr beginners weaving class will cover the 4 basic techniques you will need to complete a weave. It's going to be really hands on with lots of chatting, food and hopefully laughs.
Tickets are $195 and that includes the workshop, refreshments and a take home loom kit!

Saturday 1st November 4pm- 7pm (purchase tickets here)

Sunday 2nd November 10am- 1pm (purchase tickets here)

“Weave” got to give this trend a try! (Sorry I had to finish with this!)

Love Pip and Jumbled xxx

Welcome Jessie Breakwell!

People often ask me “how do you know what to buy for Jumbled?”, but really it is so simple... I just stock exactly what I want in my own home and I cross my fingers that there is someone out there that feels the same as I do. The art of Jessie Breakwell is one of those MUST HAVE dream pieces that I would LOVE in my own home.

I first saw one Jessie’s Zebra artworks in the background of a Pooccio photo shoot and instantly fell in love. After much searching and then a little bit of stalking, Jessie has allowed Jumbled to stock some of her artworks. This has been a long time in the making, so I am just so pumped that the day is here and I can share our new artworks and more about Jessie with you all.

Jessie’s work is offbeat, quirky and full of wonder. She is strongly influenced by Brett Whiteley and French Fauvist artist Henri Matiss. Jessie’s paintings are vibrant and fun. “I don’t like to take life too seriously,” Jessie says. “I’m not into realism, there’s enough drama going on in the world at the moment so I prefer to take a lighter look at life. ” And that she does!

http://jumbledonline.com/collections/jessie-breakwell

Jessie has studied fine art and painting at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and held successful exhibitions at Picasso Gallery in London, the posh Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles and sell-out openings in Melbourne. She has owned her own interactive gallery in Melbourne’s stylish High Street and enjoyed an eye-opening stint as art tutor to the wildly wild Ozzy Osbourne children.
