Decorating with Maps

Maps. Seriously do these ever trend? Surely not, however I guess recently we are having a love affair with the retro school maps. The vibrant greens and blues are so wonderful and there is something nostalgic about their scuffed edges and honey coloured wooden ends. I've heard a few teacher's say they remember a few years back when smart boards invaded the classrooms and all the old school maps were thrown on bonfires and destroyed (yes I joined in on the collective gasp of sadness). Now these maps are becoming as rare as hens teeth and collector items!

There are some brilliant 'new' maps that still have that old school feel, my personal favourite is the Blacklist Studio 'Take Me To South America' map. The colours are muted and calming and offer a real focus point and great conversation starter in any home.

Check out my ideas and inspiration on how to incorporate maps into your home and make them a decorating focal point.

Tips from Abigail Ahern - Part 3 of 3

For our final part of the blog post, part three, we talk about soft furnishings, lighting, flowers and art.

Soft furnishings, like cushions are a five minute facelift for an interior. Mundane to magical. Take a look at our cushions available online here.

Lighting adds mood. It is the second most transformative element in a home. Think table lamps, candle lights and chandeliers. Shop lighting here.

Flowers... Oh we love them! Abigail is a fan of real and faux flowers. She suggests never to show the stems as they are boring. Have the flowers toppling over the vase. We have some flowers available online here.

Art injects personality into a room. It is also a perfect conversation starter. We love grouping pieces into a culstered fashion like Lucy did in The Design Files house.  Start collecting some new pieces of art here.
