This artwork is a part of Amanda Hinkelmann's exhibition 'A Diary, a Long Drive and a Devon Sandwich'
Original artwork by Amanda Hinkelmann
This artwork is a representation of the land around my home. It shares unique iconography that is characteristic of my works, and symbolic of the Country I call home- Wiradjuri Country. Layered at the bottom of the artwork is the farmland that surrounds my township and the mineral rich ochres we walk on in a dry and hot summer. The Murrumbidgee River flows through the centre of the artwork, above it are the stars above Country - always calling me home. Finally, the land that sits above. All features connecting, all within a cycle and all completing the place I care for and the place that makes me whole. Behind the image, is the air - as familiar as the plant and animal life around the home, almost coloured with the intense heat of summer.
